Probably, but let’s make sure. There are two requirements:
#1. You need an unlocked phone.
Here’s how to check to see if your phone is locked:
- iPhone iOS: Go to Setting > General > About. Scroll down to Carrier Lock. If it says "No SIM restrictions," your phone is unlocked. If it mentions a carrier, the phone is locked.
- Samsung: Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators. If you can search for and see available networks, your phone is unlocked. If you see "Network locked" or cannot access this option, your phone is locked.
- Google: Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Look for "SIM status" or tap your carrier name. If you see "Network locked" or a specific carrier name under restrictions, your phone is locked. If no restrictions are shown, your phone is unlocked.
- Other Android phones: Go to Settings > Network & internet (or Connections) > Mobile network. Look for "Network operators" or "Choose network." If you can manually search for networks, your phone is unlocked. If this option is grayed out or shows "Network locked," your phone is locked to a carrier.
#2. You need a phone with eSIM support.
iPhone 11+, Samsung S20+ and most other recent model phones support eSIM.
Not sure about your phone? Open the phone dialer, then call *#06#. If you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM.
Want to use Pronto and your existing carrier plan (e.g., during your Pronto trial)? Open the phone dialer, then call *#06#.
- If you see two IMEI numbers, you’re set if you have an iPhone 13+ and Samsung S24.
- For earlier models that offer one eSIM and one physical SIM, Pronto will require the eSIM spot.
- If only one appears, Pronto will become your primary service (an excellent choice!).

You'll receive a Pronto phone number for calling and texting using your Pronto trial account. As part of the simple set up, we'll show you how to move between your current carrier plan and Pronto, for voice/text and/or data. It's easy!
Love Pronto and want to stay? You can port your current phone number to Pronto or use your Pronto number. The choice is yours.
Even with Pronto, if none of our partner networks have an acceptable signal where you are, there’s no connection—at least for now. We’re just getting started—expect continued innovation, like satellite services, in the near future.
In the meantime, if you’re not connected, we’ll be constantly searching for a signal. The moment one’s available, Pronto will connect you—automatically.
And as part of our commitment to better mobile for everyone, we'll share insights on trouble zones with our partners to help improve coverage over time.
With our automatic switching, we’re able to do most of the heavy lifting behind the scenes so most of the time, you won’t even notice that you’ve been switched.
On-demand switches typically take between 15 and 90 seconds, with an average of 25 seconds (or less than a TV commercial). It’s light-years ahead of the industry standard of hours (if not days). And if you ever lose your connection before the switch is complete, rest assured we’re on it—searching for a better signal to get you back online, Pronto!
NOTE: Your device also plays a role in how quickly we can switch networks, with newer standards and devices enabling us to switch you faster. Count on Pronto to be continually on the lookout for the best available connection—and new innovations for us to get you their faster and ever-more seamlessly.
We're glad you asked. The big guys like to be in control, so it’s not possible to do a “hot hand-off” from one network to another (yet). But, our use of VoIP (voice over internet protocol) means that when there's a quality network available and we can perform the switch quickly, you may just experience a temporary pause in the call. The same is true on apps such as Zoom, WhatsApp, Skype or FaceTime.
Our recommendation? If your connection weakens, you can end the call. Within a minute, we'll be on the hunt for a better signal or you can use the in-app on-demand network switching button. And, if you do lose connection completely, don't worry—we'll automatically start searching for the best available network to get you back online fast. Our goal is that you never have to say “can you hear me now?”
